back to school

Welcome Back!

We are so excited to get our little Pirates Back in the building!  We are taking extra safety protocols and following the guidelines set forth by the state to keep everyone healthy.  Sanitizing stations are set up in hallways, entrances, and in classrooms.  Teachers have their rooms ready to go, the lockers labeled, and we will be sending sneak peeks of our building over the weekend, including our new bathrooms!

We were thrilled with the excellent turnout for Pirates and Popsicles in the Parking Lot.  Several of our classes had 100% attendance.  We have missed the kiddos so much and seeing them has energized our staff even more.  Although there are many things that will look different, we are confident that we will have an amazing school year.  We haven’t had the chance to announce some wonderful news that we have had in the works since last spring.  We hired a new Special Education teacher, Mrs. Debbie Burns. We have split the kindergarten and 2nd grade into two groups to reduce class size. Two new classroom teachers have come on board due to our expanding population, Mrs. Dumaw and Mrs. Smith.  We have a full time counselor on staff, Mrs. Blatt.  Mrs. McPhilimy will be providing social work services, and we are proud to let you know that aside from the teacher, every classroom also has a dedicated aide to provide more adult support.

Please keep in mind that our teachers are teaching in-person and virtually, so please understand that much is being asked of them this year.  We won't have all the answers and it is likely that from time to time things will be changed for the betterment of our students, staff, and school.

Important Things to Know

  • The school day will be from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm to begin the school year.  The doors to the building will not open until 8:15 am. Bus times may vary by up to a half hour later in the morning and half hour earlier in the afternoon from previous years.

  • We love celebrations like birthdays!  However, this year if you choose to bring something in, we ask that you please make it a pre-packaged treat in it’s own wrapper, as well as a nutrition label so we can help our food-sensitive and allergic people at school. Individual apple sauces, fruit snacks, snack crackers, chips, rice crispy treats, or even easy peel mandarin oranges are favorites with our kiddos. Another great option is something that is not edible, like pencils, stickers, or erasers.

  • Parents will not be able to escort children into the building this year.  We will have plenty of adult helpers at the entrances and in the hallways for your children every morning.

  • We will be offering latchkey services AFTER SCHOOL from 2:30-6:00pm.

  • Masks must be worn on the bus and in the hallway.  When in class, students do not need to wear their mask.

  • We will be bringing breakfast, lunch, and special classes into the classroom so students can remain with the same cohort throughout the day.

  • Keeping everyone safe and healthy depends on all of us taking responsibility.  We need your help by doing the following:

    • Complete a temperature check at home  (stay home until fever free with no medicine for 24 hours)

    • Make sure your child boards the bus with a mask on

    • Make sure your child puts on a mask before entering the bus/school building

    • Use hand sanitizer when entering the bus/building (provided by the school)

    • Keep children home if they run a fever or have cold or flu-like symptoms

    • If your child becomes ill at school, we will call.  Please have a plan for who can pick up your child if he/she become sick.

Thank you in advance for helping us navigate this school year and making it a positive one. We are ready to see everyone on September 8th!
