Congratulations to our October Athlete of the Month: Lane Warner and Emily Ridson.
Lane Warner- Football
The Peck High School Athletic Department recognizes Senior Lane Warner as October's Athlete of the Month, celebrating his hard-work, commitment, and contribution to the Pirate Football Program.
Warner has held many positions in his 7 years playing for the Pirates including full back, D-line, kicker, and linebacker. Warner works hard every day to be a better player than the day before, but this year worked especially hard to improve his kicking for kick off. During his time for the Pirates Warner has had many great accomplishments not limited to being named TSA player of the Week and breaking the school record for number sacks for a single game. Warner said his accomplishment he is most proud of is breaking the sacks in a single game record, compiling 5 sacks in a single game.
Warner expressed humbleness and was honored to be chosen as October Athlete of the Month. “I am honored to be chosen. I have put in a lot of work this season and I am grateful for my team in helping me achieve this honor. My team is always blocking for me and that has helped me tremendously as a player.” Coach Silverthorn spoke highly of Warner’s toughness and impact on the team. “Lane led the team in tackles for the four games in October. Offensively Lane had huge games versus Mayville and All Saints, receiving TSA Player of the Week for his efforts. Lane was one of the toughest players on our team, having a great skill-set for the game. Lane was a key component in our team's success this season.”
Completing his senior season this past week at Playoffs versus Bay City All Saints was an impactful moment during the season for Warner. This was the first time the Pirates had made playoffs in 4 years. While playoffs were away, Warner always looked forward to ringing the bell at the end of games on the Pirate’s home field. “Playing with all of my friends has been a highlight of my career. Cam Watson has been my biggest influence in football. He is always there at the end of every play to lift you up at the end of every play. Warner’s advice to younger Peck Athletes is,” Hard work pays off. Keep pushing yourself to be the best you can, and never stop putting in the effort.”
Emilie Ridson- Trap
The Peck High School Athletic Department recognizes Freshman Emilie Ridson as October's Athlete of the Month, celebrating her skill, dedication, and hard work to the Pirate Trap Program.
Ridson is a member of Peck’s Trap team, shooting for 5 years currently. Emilie credited her dad for being her biggest influence in the sport. “My dad and I started trap shooting together. We learned together, and even though he was better when we started, he always pushed me to be a better shooter every time we went out and practiced together or with the team.” Ridson was a key part of the Peck Trap team this fall season, finishing as the top female in the conference as well as 21st overall in the state for the Michigan State High School Clay Target league. These huge accomplishments are ones that Ridson is very proud of. She stated her accomplishment she is most proud of is getting top 25 in the state.
This season Ridson has pushed herself every day to be a better shooter and team member. Coach Jeremie Ridson spoke highly of Emilie's commitment to the team. “Emilie is such a hard working, dedicated member of the team. Emilie shows up to every practice, shows up for open shoots, and is always up to shoot with anyone when asked. Emilie works very hard to be better every day and improve.” One skill Ridson has worked hard to improve on this season is her stance. If a shot is off she knows her stance was off and makes the adjustment to be better on the next round. Ridson has credited her team to be a contributor to her success. “We shoot as a team and our scores as a team affect our success. We work to pump each other up and be better every shot.” Moving forward Ridson’s goal for trap is to shoot a perfect 25.
Ridson expressed her excitement and thankfulness for being chosen as October’s Athlete of the Month. “I have worked very hard to improve this season. It is a great honor to be chosen as Athlete of the Month. My dad has helped me so much to get to where I am today, and I am so happy he can be proud of me and this recognition.” This season Ridson has learned a lot as a team member and individual athlete. “One shot at a time” is an important piece of advice she has learned from her coach this season. “You can’t focus on that last clay or shot because it is over and not coming back. You need to keep pushing forward and work to be better on the next shot.” This lesson from her coach has influenced her advice to younger Peck athletes: “The more events you go to the better you will get. Any chance you have to show up, practice, practice again, and keep taking your shot.”

Elementary Retake Picture Day is coming up on Thursday, Nov 5 (if you have a Jr. /Sr. High student as well, theirs will also be this day, but they have a separate code).
If you're satisfied with your child's picture, no further action is required.
If you purchased and were unhappy with your Picture Package, please send your Picture Package to school with your student on Retake Day. Your Retake Picture Package will be produced and shipped to the school four weeks after Retake Day. Please note, if your child is photographed on the original and Retake Picture Days, the Retake picture will replace the original picture in certain products, like the yearbook.
